The Goff Building is truly a West Virginia Landmark. The building is part of the Clarksburg Downtown Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as of 1982. Clarksburg has a rich heritage in West Virginia, and this building, having been commissioned in 1909 by one of its most prominent citizens, Nathan Goff Jr., tells much of the history of West Virginia and the city of Clarksburg. The building itself remains almost unchanged on the exterior from its completion in 1911 and stands as a beacon of Clarksburg’s growth at t
he turn of the century.
This building has so much to offer Clarksburg and West Virginia as a whole. It was commissioned by one of the state’s most prominent sons, designed by arguably the most prominent architect of the time (Milburn), and quickly became a cornerstone of business in Downtown Clarksburg. 75 Development’s acquisition of the building in late 2019 marks a significant change in ownership from out of state investment firms to a West Virginia based company dedicated to preserving the historic heritage of our Mountain State. With the current support of the City Council, the citizens of Clarksburg, and the new owner, this building will be able to not only reopen the doors, but also be preserved in a manner that saves much of the historical detail and architecture that makes it so unique and contributes to West Virginia’s Heritage.
Our team at The Viking Group has partnered with the 75 Development to assist in all phases of this important revitalization project. Currently, the first floor is undergoing renovations for commercial units, with The Viking Group as General Contractor for the builds. In the next phase of construction our team will execute a design for a shared coworking space on the second floor, helping to fill an area need for more flexible use and remote-work office space. The final build phase is being developed and led by our team in collaboration with the owners, investors, and the city with assistance from leading architectural and engineering firms committed to Historic Preservation.
