The Viking Group had the privilege of working on this adaptive reuse project from conception to completion. Our team of experts acted as consultants throughout the construction design phase of the project, assisting the developers, owners, and investors in realizing additional savings through Value Engineering prior to beginning construction.
The Atlas Building is located on Quarrier Street in The Downtown Charleston Historic District and was was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. The Atlas Building, which was opened in 1941, was designed by Charleston-based Tucker and Silling and at the time was considered the most elaborate and up-to-date public building in Charleston.
Acting as Construction Manager for the duration of this $10 million project, our team was responsible for its continued progress and successful completion. The Atlas Building is now a vibrant mixed use property, with commercial space and 52 modern, open-concept layout downtown apartments.
During our involvement in this project, specialized focus on the historic significance of much of the building’s original features to be preserved ensured all Historic Tax Credit criteria were met in accordance with the designs approved by National Park Service and State Historical Preservation Office.
