Goff Building - Clarksburg, WV
The Goff Building was built in 1911 as the last of five buildings commissioned by Nathan Goff, Jr. Despite being listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this stately, nine story, 65,000 square foot building sat vacant and had fallen into great disrepair. The Viking Group was retained to orchestrate and manage a significant amount of emergency masonry repair and historic preservation work. This work included the repair and new installation of masonry walls on the elevator penthouse, repointing of exterior brick, as well as the removal, repair and replacement of masonry walls surrounding historic stained glass skylights and repair to some of the lobby roof’s structural components. Due to partial funds for this restoration being allocated by SHPO, all work had to be completed and inspected per NPS guidelines. In addition, Viking oversaw the first phase of restoration of the ground floor commercial spaces within the building, overseeing environmental testing, demolition, and construction while preserving and restoring many of the building's original interior casework, plaster, stone, and hardwood floors.
