The Viking Group had the pleasure of working with the buildings’ owner to develop plans for their adaptive reuse, assisting them in reimagining the campus as a community center. Viking assisted the owner throughout predevelopment, assembling the core professional team and working with them to get the property listed on the National Register of Historic Places, becoming only the second building in Calhoun County, WV to be listed and also making the building’s rehabilitation eligible for Historic Tax Credits. Viking played an integral role in the owner receiving substantial additional funding through New Market Tax Credits as well as State and Federal grants. As the project transitioned to the construction phase, Viking was retained as construction manager and general contractor leading the construction to convert the high school into mixed-use occupancy with first floor retail, second floor classrooms, and third floor residential apartments. Viking also completed the construction of a community pool and Aquatic Center on the former football field and initiated the addition of 10,000 square feet of new construction on the campus.
